Our Wedding Day

Together with our families, we are pleased to announce our impending marriage which will take place in Spain on Friday 18th August, 2023 in the company of our nearest and dearest. Our wedding ceremony will be followed by a banquet and fiesta.

As our friends and family will be coming into Spain from all over the world, we’ll strive to provide as much information on our website on where to stay, how to get there and what to do while you are there (please use the navigation menu above), but if there is anything we haven’t covered in the Wedding details please do reach out to us on Whatsapp at any time.

The Agenda

We will marry at noon on Friday 18th August, 2023 at “Nuestra Señora del Consuelo” in Plaza de la Iglesia, Altea. It is a blue-domed Catholic church first built in the early 17th century set in the old town square a-top a hill with truly breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea.

The banquet will take place in a private venue at the leaf-clad “Casa Santonja” at CV 729, 03778 Beniarbeig. It is a 19th century building set in over 20,000 square metres of gardens that are home to centenary trees. Find out more about the wedding agenda here.

The Coach

On our Wedding Day, we’ve arranged a Coach (we will confirm personally with each guest if they require this service so we can book according to their needs) that will leave punctually from a single designated onboarding point in central Denia – HOTEL POSADA DEL MAR DENIA – to church in Altea (45 minute ride) leaving at 10:35 punctually – please make your way to this location on time. The coach will get to PALAU Altea Car Park at 11.25 am to meet the Groom, walk up to Church (not car accessible) and be seated at 11.40 before the ceremony begins.

If you are self-driving please meet the Groom at the PALAU ALTEA Cark Park at 11:25.

After the ceremony guests will have some time to explore the Church square and at the time indicated by the Wedding Planner there, they will all head back to the Coach parked a 5 to 10 minute walk back down from the old town. The Coach will set off punctually from PALAU ALTEA Car Park at 14:45 for the Banquet at Casa Santonja (45 minute ride) so please remain close to the group.

After the Fiesta is over the Coach will depart at 00:30 and return to HOTEL LA POSADA DEL MAR DENIA, please make your way to your accommodation from there / see TAXI details if you wish to leave earlier.

How to Get There

We suggest the best airport to fly into is Alicante Airport, although you can also fly into Valencia Airport or explore Barcelona as an option if you want to make your own way down the coastline – ideally reaching Denia region, which is the central hub location for our wedding events, by latest PM Thursday 17th August 2023.

Have a look on the travel section to find out more.

A Question or Two

In case you’re wondering what the colour scheme is (because no one wants to match the table napkins)… or you want to find out what weather to expect? Or if we’ll have any other celebrations at home/surrounding our wedding day? We’ve put together a few guidelines to help you with your planning.

Our wedding ceremony and wedding banquet is Adults Only (18+) so we hope all our guests can enjoy a night or two off, dancing carefree under the Spanish sun. For any other questions you may have please do check out our FAQs.

Unplugged Wedding Ceremony

We kindly ask for an unplugged wedding ceremony so we’d be grateful if no photos/videos are taken inside the church including the bride’s entrance up to the entire duration of the ceremony, photos can be taken outside the church after the ceremony. We will be making a social media update with photos announcing our wedding in the week or so following our nuptials.

Where to Stay

We’d recommend you stay centrally in the seaside resort town Denia, which is a 15 minutes taxi away from where our banquet will be held. Alternatively you can spend the night prior and the wedding night in/around Beniaberg – a sleepy Spanish village where our banquet venue is located. Find out more about what accommodation options are available or search on Google Maps using our recommended Wedding Accommodation list.

The Couple

Tom and Lorena

On a Friday in July, 1986 a baby girl called Lorena was born in Bogota, Colombia, just two months after her birth she was boarding a flight to begin her life, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She grew up in Cyprus before heading to Australia for university. Once she completed her masters in Scotland she was back home to Cyprus until her professional endeavours took her to Germany, to England and then onto Saigon.

On a Friday in October, 1989 a boy called Tom was born in Chesterfield, England, decades later these two crossed paths in Cyprus. He moved to Loughborough for university before joining the Mercian Regiment which took him to Denmark and Cyprus. Once he dusted his army boots off, Tom joined the private sector where his career took him across England and Scotland and then onto Saigon. Find out more about the Bride and Groom here.

The probability of separate worlds meeting is very small. The lure of it is immense. We send starships. We fall in love.”- Jeanette Winterson

Our Engagement

We got engaged on Saturday 9th April, 2022 on Hon Gam Ghi Island off the coast of Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Having checked into “La Veranda by M Gallery” Tom booked a chartered boat trip for us as a surprise. Whilst clambering over crab-ridden rocks alone on a secluded islet Lorena turned around to him proposing. Photos of the proposal were kindly captured by our tour guide and can be found in our engagement gallery.

Our Journey

A journey that is taking us to the altar began when we first met in 2013 and went on a date to “Havana” – a quirky Cuban bar in the old town of Nicosia, Cyprus – three weeks later Tom was leaving the island never to be seen again….or so we thought.

A year later we met again and by the tail-end of January 2015 Tom muttered “will you be my girlfriend?“.

We racked up our air miles flying between the UK and Germany and by 2016 we agreed to make the move to London together.

Fast forward dozens of globe-trekking adventures and moves from Nicosia, to Glasgow, to Sheffield, to Berlin to London, to Saigon – Tom was on one knee on a secluded Vietnamese islet in the Gulf of Thailand, proposing. Find out about our journey together.
